Tri-Cyclen Lo (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol)
Tri-Cyclen Lo Description
Tri-Cyclen Lo is a medicinal drug containing a combination of norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol. These two chemicals are constituted of a mixture of female hormones that bring about a prevention of ovulation, which is the act of the ovary releasing an egg. The combination of the two hormones is used for causing a change to the lining of the uterine wall and the cervical mucus thus making it more difficult for the sperm to get to the uterus and also more difficult for an egg that has been fertilized to attach itself to the wall of the uterus.
Tri-Cyclen Lo, which is a combination of norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol, is thus used in the prevention of pregnancy. It can be said to be an oral contraceptive formulation.
Conditions Treated by Tri-Cyclen Lo
As already mentioned, Tri-Cyclen Lo is used primarily as a contraceptive that is administered orally and hence helps in preventing pregnancy. Tri-Cyclen Lo achieves this through the norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol which it consists of. These two female hormones alter the lining of the uterus as well as the cervical mucus and hence make it hard for the sperm to reach the uterus and for an egg that has been fertilized to attach itself to the wall of the uterus. Tri-Cyclen Lo is also sometimes used for treating severe acne and may also be employed for treating a number of medical conditions not listed here.
