Neurontin is a prescription drug for treating symptoms of epilepsy. It works as an anticonvulsant. It is the brand name for gabapentin. This medicine works on the nerves in the body, which are responsible for causing seizures. Besides working as an anticonvulsant, this drug is also used to relieve pain as the medicine has a calming effect on the nerves. This drug is mostly used as a pain reliever for pain caused in the nerves due to shingles and herpes. Neurontin is manufactured by Parke-Davis.

Doctors usually prescribe this drug alone or in combination with other drugs. This drug is not prescribed for children below the age of 12 years. Even if it is prescribed to children between 3 to 12 years, it is mostly given to children with a combination of other drugs. The drug is usually available in two forms- in tablets and in the liquid form. Make sure that the tablets are stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture and outside the reach of children.
