Lovaza Description

Lovaza is the brand name given to a type of fish-oil capsule that is frequently used in the United States for people with high levels of triglycerides in their blood. Excessive triglycerides in the bloodstream can be very unhealthy and can cause a myriad of health problems. Hence, doctors prescribe Lovaza and advocate a low-fat diet to treat such cases. Lovaza is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and has been approved by the American Food and Drug Administration. Despite being a fish-oil capsule it was put through rigorous testing and checking and is now considered to be a pharmaceutical drug. Lovaza works by regulating lipids in the body but its exact means of working have not been identified as of yet.

Conditions Treated Lovaza

Lovaza is prescribed to patients with very high triglyceride levels. Essentially, these are people who have a lot of fat in their bodies. A high level of triglycerides can greatly increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes so it is necessary to bring down the level using medication. Lovaza has proved to be very effective in this regard and is a popular choice in both the Unites States and in Europe where it is known as Omacor.
