Alphagan P (brimonidine)
Alphagan P Drug Description
Alphagan P is a medicinal drug, which contains brimonidine. Brimonidine is an alpha 2 adrenergic receptor agonist drugs that finds use in the treatment of ocular hypertension or open angle glaucoma. Brimonidine does its work by decreasing the synthesis process of aqueous humor present in the eye and at the same time increasing the amount of aqueous humor that is drained from the eye through the process of uveoscleral outflow.
Alphagan P, which contains brimonidine, is thus used to reduce the quantity of fluid present in the eye and thereby decrease the pressure that exists within the eye.
Conditions Treated by Alphagan P
Alphagan P finds use in the treatment of ocular hypertension (which is high pressure within the eye) as well as open angle glaucoma. Alphagan P works through the brimonidine present in it, which decreases the synthesis of aqueous humor while increasing the amount of aqueous humor that is drained from the eye through uveoscleral outflow. Alphagan P may also find application in treating for a number of other medical conditions not listed here.
